What P07F7 means
A ratio code compares input or turbine speed divided by output speed with the ratio of the commanded gear; a slipping clutch or the wrong gear trips it.
How the engine computer detects it
Ford's summaries describe the check (over 30 rpm off for more than 1.8 s, three times) for gears 1–6 only; its 10-speed bulletins show gears 7–10 as P076F, P07D9, P07F6 and P07F7. P07F7 covers 10th gear, so in practice only ten-speed automatics. Ford's 10R80 lists it in all its ratio bulletins. On the 2020 Super Duty with the 10R140 a 2025 bulletin shows P07F7 alone, with the powertrain wrench lamp instead of the MIL and 10th gear locked out, caused by a migrating sleeve in a clutch cylinder that leaks; an earlier bulletin blames sticking main valve-body valves. GM's 10-speed reports through clutch valve codes instead.

Symptoms
- Slipping or flaring engine speed in gear 10
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Check engine or transmission warning lamp
- Gear 10 locked out, higher rpm at cruise
Common causes
- Clutch slipping or hydraulic leak (Ford 10R: migrating sleeve in the CDF clutch cylinder) Most likely
- Shift adaptives wrong or not learned Most likely
- Sticking valve in the valve body Possible
- Fluid level low or fluid degraded Possible
- Turbine or output speed sensor signal wrong Less likely
How to diagnose P07F7
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: transmission clutches, transmission valve body, transmission fluid, transmission control module.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.
Vehicles that report P07F7 most

| Ford Expedition | 2019–2021 | 4 | — |
Counts of owner complaints to the NHTSA that mention P07F7 (24 in total), not failure rates: popular models get more complaints simply because more of them are on the road. Models with fewer than 3 complaints are left out.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P07F7?
If the car shifts normally, drive gently to a shop. If it's stuck in one gear, slips, shifts harshly or won't move out of Park, don't drive it: have it towed.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P07F7?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
Often reported together
Codes that owners mention in the same NHTSA complaints as P07F7. They can point to a shared cause, so it's worth checking them together.
