How to read a trouble code
- P
- The system: P for powertrain, B for body, C for chassis, U for the network between modules.
- 0
- 0 means a generic code that is the same on every car (on P codes, 2 does too). 1 means the manufacturer defined it.
- 4
- The subsystem. On P0 codes, 3 is ignition and misfire, 4 is emission controls, 7 is the transmission.
- 20
- The specific fault inside that subsystem.
