What P07FC means
P07FC means the transmission does not reach the commanded 10th gear – the counterpart to P07FB, where 10th cannot be left.
How the engine computer detects it
No manufacturer document available to us uses it. 'Unable to Engage' is documented only for eight-speed dual-clutch transmissions, for example the 2020–23 Corvette (P07D8). Ten-speed planetary automatics from Ford and GM report a missing 10th gear as a ratio code (P07F7) or through valve codes; Ford's 10R140 then locks out 10th. The description follows the J2012 scheme and CARB's functional check of transmission outputs.

Symptoms
- Gear 10 skipped or never reached, higher rpm at cruise
- Check engine and transmission warning lamp
- Jerky shifts, possibly loss of one half of a dual-clutch transmission
Common causes
- Sticking solenoid or shift valve in the mechatronic unit Most likely
- System pressure too low or unstable Possible
- Adaptives lost or wrong after software or parts work Possible
- Shift fork or synchronizer damaged Possible
How to diagnose P07FC
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: shift fork actuator, transmission mechatronics, shift fork, transmission control module.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P07FC?
If the car shifts normally, drive gently to a shop. If it's stuck in one gear, slips, shifts harshly or won't move out of Park, don't drive it: have it towed.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P07FC?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
