What P07E6 means
With shift-by-wire or park-by-wire, P, R, N and D are requested electrically (buttons, rotary selector, automatic park on shutdown) and an actuator moves the selector shaft or the park pawl; the module compares the requested with the range actually reached.
How the engine computer detects it
P07E6 means park cannot be left: the pawl stays engaged or its position feedback keeps reporting P. Ford documents it on the HF45 hybrid transmission (2023–24 Escape, 2022–24 Maverick), where the inverter control module monitors the park actuator – the P on the rotary selector flashes, the wrench lamp comes on and an internally failed actuator is replaced (about 13–14 h) – and on the 2024–25 Mach-E, where a high resistance in the park motor ground is fixed with new software and a ground harness. Maserati lists it for the MC20 dual-clutch transmission. Ford keeps it off the MIL; GM tables do not list it.

Symptoms
- Vehicle stays in P and cannot be driven away
- P flashes on the selector, P in the cluster dark
- Wrench lamp or 'Service vehicle soon'
Common causes
- Park lock actuator failed internally Most likely
- High resistance at the park motor ground Possible
- Control module software Possible
- Low system voltage Less likely
How to diagnose P07E6
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: park lock actuator, park position sensor, electronic range selector, transmission control module.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Counts of owner complaints to the NHTSA that mention P07E6 (13 in total), not failure rates: popular models get more complaints simply because more of them are on the road. Models with fewer than 3 complaints are left out.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P07E6?
If the car shifts normally, drive gently to a shop. If it's stuck in one gear, slips, shifts harshly or won't move out of Park, don't drive it: have it towed.
