What P0757 means
A shift solenoid is an electrically switched valve in the valve body; together the solenoid states select the gear, and the module checks the result by gear ratio, slip or a pressure switch – the pattern of wrong gears shows which solenoid hangs off or on.
How the engine computer detects it
P0757 means solenoid B is commanded off but its clutch stays applied. GM 4-speeds recognize the pattern 1-2-2-1 – third and fourth become second and first – after one trip and switch to third gear with maximum pressure; Allison checks its pressure switch after 2 s. Ford calls it 'functionally failed on' and lists it in bulletins for the 10R80 and 8F35 with mechanical causes. Note that a 2006 GM table labels this row 'stuck off' – the pattern is what counts.

Symptoms
- No upshift beyond second gear, high engine speed
- Tie-up on shifts
- Limp mode
- Check engine light
Common causes
- Shift spool sticking in the applied position Most likely
- Solenoid stuck open or leaking Possible
- Clutch not releasing (burnt or stuck) Possible
- Contaminated or wrong fluid Possible
How to diagnose P0757
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: shift solenoid, transmission valve body, transmission wiring, transmission control module.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P0757?
If the car shifts normally, drive gently to a shop. If it's stuck in one gear, slips, shifts harshly or won't move out of Park, don't drive it: have it towed.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P0757?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
