What P025E means

Boost sensor A measures the pressure between charge air cooler and throttle (Ford TIP, GM TIAP).

How the engine computer detects it

P025E counts brief excursions outside its valid voltage range that are each too short for the low or high code P0237/P0238 – Ford's limits are below 0.19 V and above 4.88 V. Ford counts these events continuously and sets P025E after 10 in one drive cycle. Boost control then runs on a substitute value or is switched off, leaving only base boost. Typical causes are a loose or corroded connector or a wire breaking under vibration and heat.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Occasional loss of power, boost limited
  • Jerking on acceleration

Common causes

  1. Loose contact or corrosion at the sensor connector Most likely
  2. Wire or 5 V reference breaking from vibration or heat Possible
  3. Sensor faulty internally (erratic signal) Possible
  4. Shared 5 V reference disturbed by another sensor Less likely

How to diagnose P025E

  1. Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
  2. Inspect the parts involved: boost pressure sensor a, sensor wiring.
  3. Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
  4. Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask

Can I drive with code P025E?

Drive gently and only as far as you need to. The engine computer may limit power to protect the engine, so avoid highways and heavy traffic until it's fixed. If the check engine light starts flashing, pull over.

Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P025E?

Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.

Can I fix P025E myself?

Often yes, with an OBD-II scanner and basic tools. Difficulty: easy. Start with the cheapest checks before replacing expensive parts.
