What P0882 means
The TCM power input codes watch the supply voltage of the transmission module or of its solenoid supply.
How the engine computer detects it
Without a proper supply all solenoids go dead and the transmission falls back to its hydraulic emergency gear with maximum line pressure: a fixed gear, harsh engagement, no shifting. Ford's external transmission modules check a window of 9 to 16 V; GM reports the same under P0562/P0563. P0882 means the supply is too low: Ford sets it below 9 V, continuously and with MIL. Chrysler's RFE, RLE and TE automatics test it when the key goes to run: if the module reads less than 3 V at the transmission control relay outputs while commanding the relay on, the code sets and the solenoids stay dead.

Symptoms
- MIL on
- Limp mode in a fixed gear, no shifting
- Torque converter clutch stays open
Common causes
- Weak battery or alternator not charging Most likely
- Transmission relay, fuse or fuse box module faulty (Chrysler) Most likely
- Corroded ground or supply wire, connector at the module Possible
- Module faulty Less likely
How to diagnose P0882
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: transmission control module, transmission relay, battery, module wiring.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P0882?
Drive gently and only as far as you need to. The engine computer may limit power to protect the engine, so avoid highways and heavy traffic until it's fixed. If the check engine light starts flashing, pull over.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P0882?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
Can I fix P0882 myself?
Often yes, with an OBD-II scanner and basic tools. Difficulty: medium. Start with the cheapest checks before replacing expensive parts.
