What P060C means
P060C reports a fault in the main processor that actually runs the engine, found either by the monitoring processor (Ford 'quizzer', level 3) or by duplicate storage and recalculation (GM).
How the engine computer detects it
Typical findings are corrupted RAM or ROM data, arithmetic unit errors, memory address violations, a wrong program sequence or internal supply or temperature out of range (Ford diesel: internal voltage outside 1.3–3.3 V, 5 s). GM's 2025 gasoline table flags a torque compensation outside ±52.9 Nm (39 lb-ft) for 475 ms and sets the code in the first trip. Reactions range from reduced power to engine shutdown. Software is the most common cause: GM (2022 full-size trucks and SUVs), VW (Tiguan 2021, with cruise control faults), Nissan and Mercedes (transmission module, E-Class hybrid) fixed it by reprogramming.

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced power or limp mode
- Driver assistance such as adaptive cruise unavailable
- Rarely stalling or no start
- Transmission limp mode if the transmission module is affected
Common causes
- Faulty module software (update available) Most likely
- Unstable supply voltage or poor ground at the module (weak battery, voltage spikes) Possible
- Internal hardware defect (memory, processor) Possible
- Overheating or moisture in the module Less likely
How to diagnose P060C
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: engine control module, control module power supply, control module ground.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P060C?
Drive gently and only as far as you need to. The engine computer may limit power to protect the engine, so avoid highways and heavy traffic until it's fixed. If the check engine light starts flashing, pull over.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P060C?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
