What P055F means
P055F is a condition code: the measured oil pressure is above the maximum expected for speed and oil temperature – Ford, which documents it, calls it 'too high' and pairs it with P0524 (too low).
How the engine computer detects it
Ford checks continuously for 5 s, only with plausible oil pressure, oil temperature and coolant sensors, as engine protection. Background are regulated oil pumps, whose control valve (P06DA ff) defaults to full pressure on failure. An electrically high signal is P0523 or P055D instead.

Symptoms
- Check engine light or oil pressure warning
- Possible engine protection or power limit
- Possible oil filter or seal leaks
Common causes
- Oil pump control valve or variable pump stuck at high pressure Most likely
- Pump relief valve stuck Possible
- Wrong viscosity, very cold oil Possible
- Sensor A reading high within range Less likely
How to diagnose P055F
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: oil pump, oil pump control valve, oil pressure sensor, engine control module.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P055F?
Check the oil level before driving. This code can be a faulty sensor or control circuit, but you can't rule out real low oil pressure from the code alone. If the oil pressure warning light comes on, the engine starts ticking or knocking, or the oil is low, don't drive: have it towed.
