What P0350 means

P0350 is the general ignition coil circuit code without assignment to a coil: the engine module detects a fault in the primary or secondary circuit of a coil but does not report which one.

How the engine computer detects it

This typically concerns older systems with a shared output stage or ignition module, or a shared feedback line for all coils. The monitoring works as for P0351 ff – primary-current feedback for each ignition command, or the voltage at the driver. GM and Ford report coil faults individually (P0351 ff, P2300 ff) and do not use P0350; the description follows CARB's output monitoring requirement, which allows one collective code.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Misfire, rough running
  • Starting problems or stalling if a shared output stage fails

Common causes

  1. Ignition coil, coil pack or ignition module faulty Most likely
  2. Shared supply (fuse, relay, ignition feed) or ground open Possible
  3. Harness, connector or feedback line to the coils faulty Possible
  4. Ignition lead or plug connector damaged (secondary side) Less likely
  5. Engine module or driver Less likely

How to diagnose P0350

  1. Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
  2. Inspect the parts involved: ignition coils, ignition module, ignition wiring.
  3. Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
  4. Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Questions drivers ask

Can I drive with code P0350?

Drive gently and only as far as you need to. The engine computer may limit power to protect the engine, so avoid highways and heavy traffic until it's fixed. If the check engine light starts flashing, pull over.

Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P0350?

Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.

Can I fix P0350 myself?

Often yes, with an OBD-II scanner and basic tools. Difficulty: medium. Start with the cheapest checks before replacing expensive parts.
