What P018B means
Fuel pressure sensor B is a second fuel pressure sensor; which one is up to the manufacturer.
How the engine computer detects it
On GM it is the low-pressure sensor in the supply line of direct-injection engines (0–743 kPa (0–108 psi)), read by the engine module or the fuel pump control module; on Ford engines with dual injection it is the sensor on the port-injection rail (0.5–4.5 V for about 0–70 psi). Sensor A is the high-pressure rail sensor (P0190–P0194). P018B is the plausibility fault. GM checks actively whether the sensor responds: if the pump duty sits at its limit for 5 s or the pressure error varies too little, the module changes pump output and fails the sensor if pressure moves 30 kPa (4.4 psi) or less – a 'frozen' sensor; two trips. Ford checks the deviation from target instead: more than 20 psi (about 1.4 bar (20 psi)) for 8 s with a plausible target of 35–60 psi, which can also be a genuine pressure problem. A fault-free P018B is a precondition for GM's pump output check (P2635) and Ford's supply checks (P008A/P008B).

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting or hesitation when accelerating
- Stumbling under load
- Often no symptoms
Common causes
- Sensor drifting or stuck (diaphragm, electronics) Most likely
- Genuine low-pressure fault: weak pump, clogged filter, faulty regulator Possible
- Contact resistance at connector or ground Possible
- Fuel pump control module or its control Less likely
How to diagnose P018B
- Read every stored code with an OBD-II scanner. If misfire or fuel trim codes are there too, fix those first: they often cause this one.
- Inspect the parts involved: fuel pressure sensor b, sensor wiring, sensor reference voltage, fuel pump.
- Work through the causes above from most to least likely, cheapest checks first.
- Clear the code and drive a full drive cycle to confirm the repair held.

Counts of owner complaints to the NHTSA that mention P018B (10 in total), not failure rates: popular models get more complaints simply because more of them are on the road. Models with fewer than 3 complaints are left out.

Questions drivers ask
Can I drive with code P018B?
Usually yes for a short time, if the car drives normally, the temperature gauge reads normal and the check engine light is steady. If the light flashes, the engine loses power or overheats, or other warning lights come on, pull over and have it checked.
Will my car pass an emissions inspection with P018B?
Probably not in states that test vehicles with an OBD-II scan: an emissions-related code that keeps the check engine light on is usually an automatic fail. Rules differ by state and county, so check yours.
Will P018B clear by itself?
The light can go off after several drive cycles without the fault, but the code returns if the cause is still there. After a repair, the readiness monitors need a full drive cycle before an inspection.
Can I fix P018B myself?
Often yes, with an OBD-II scanner and basic tools. Difficulty: medium. Start with the cheapest checks before replacing expensive parts.
Often reported together
Codes that owners mention in the same NHTSA complaints as P018B. They can point to a shared cause, so it's worth checking them together.
